Daechon Folk Culture Hall is a traditional folk experiencing hall which has displayed folk materials... Daechon Folk Culture Hall is a traditional folk experiencing hall which has displayed folk materials since August 2009 at the Hyosarang video studio built on the lot of the former Daechon Elementary School in Yanggwa-dong. Every Monday, it is a day off. Everyday from 10 am to 5 pm it is open for free. After 2 or 3months later it will charge fare. Management program is run with/without paying by reservation. You can learn hanji craft, pottery, knot, balloon art, and make ribbons for just ths cost of its materials. We can experience Such as agricultural experience, play experience and undutiful child experience etc anytime for free. In addition, it is linked to Gwangju Bean Center which is located in Abchon-dong and runs a program of making tofu. We can make and eat tofu with domestic beans on our own. Gossaum play theme park which is Important Intangable Cultural Property No. 33 is located in adjacent area. And it is running the first 4D movies it this area.

Buk-gu, which has the largest population and area in Gwangju, is said to present a vivid map of Gwangju’s history and culture. The Gwangju Buk-gu Cultural Center, which was incepted based on the history and tradition of Gwangju, holds a wide range of cultural events and programs across the year, including an event of making hwajeon (flower pancake) and playing folk games on March 3 of the lunar calendar, holding Mudeuri Gugak Contest, Family Love Drawing and Writing Contest, Folk Game Festival, cultural and historic site tours, an original poem recitation contest for families, etc. The aim is to improve the quality of life of local residents and trigger nostalgia about traditional culture. * Cultural Programs * As a cultural school designated by the government, it receives state funding for various traditional culture and art classes. It offers a wide variety of educational classes for various age groups from young children to seniors, and it is dedicated to provide accurate information on local history and culture. Gwangsan-gu, accounting for 46% of the total area of Gwangju, not only shares the history of Gwangju but is also a beautiful place where urban and rural areas are in harmony with the splendid natural scenery. The Gwangsan Cultural Center is taking the lead in fostering local culture by taking advantage of such geographical conditions and local history. The main endeavors of the Gwangsan Cultural Center include conducting research on local history, holding the National Patriotic Poet Yonga Park Yong-cheol Writing Contest and the Eodeung Art Competition, and running a cultural school. * Cultural Programs * The Gwangsan Cultural Center is operating a cultural school to promote wholesome leisure activities centering on cultural and art classes with the participation of local residents from all walks of life. There are singing, jazz, yoga, pop music, and literature classes among others as well as weekend family programs such as pottery class. To provide opportunities for personal development and self-realization for literary enthusiasts and to discover those with literary talent and contribute to the development of local culture, the center hosts the National Patriotic Poet Yonga Park Yong-cheol Writing Contest. The Gwangsan Cultural Center operates a traditional arts school that fosters an understanding of Korea’s traditional culture by offering traditional culture experience programs (hanji craft class and pottery class) for the entire family during school breaks and on weekends. They also conduct research on legends, famous figures, etc. of Gwangsan.
